Some of us like to think of our power banks as little boxes of magic that keep our favourite devices going all day long. If you’ve never bought one before, there can be a lot of questions raised about how to look after it, how long it lasts for and if a power bank can be recharged multiple times with no problems.
To help make charging life easier, we’ve got all the information you need to know about rechargeable power banks and how to use them for the first time.
Are power banks rechargeable?
Yes. Power banks run on lithium batteries that can handle a charge over and over. It is best to think of them as a modern version of rechargeable batteries you would have plugged in years ago, only much more reliable and safer.
How do you use a power bank for the first time?
Every power bank at QI PowerSurge comes with simple instructions on how to get everything in order. When you’re using a bank for the first time, you’ll need to connect your bank via the USB/Micro USB slot to a power source. Some models will have a small LED light inside that turns on while you’re charging.
Do you have to charge a power bank through a socket on its first charge?
No. As long it is plugged into a power source via USB, it will charge.
While you should have no problems trying to charge it via a laptop that’s plugged in or from a device with a USB port while it is turned on, we do recommend charging it via a USB adaptor plugged into a wall. It helps the bank reach charge quicker and doesn’t drain another device’s battery.
Do you have to have a complete charge on your first charge of a power bank?
You don’t need to, but it helps to charge as much as possible. It will give the battery inside the best chance possible in reaching capacity and let you see how long a full battery will last on the go.
How long does the first charge take?
It all depends on the size.
From the power banks available at QI PowerSurge, here is how long you would expect that initial charge to take:
All of our portable power bank chargers have overcharge protection, so you don’t need to worry about the bank getting into any problems on its first charge.
Should I use the power bank intermittently?
If it’s your first time using a power bank, you don’t want to plug it in for a few minutes on your phone, then a few on your laptop for short bursts. The bank works best when charging a device that needs the energy, so keep it until you know you need a good level of charge.
